Iga Swiatek v Bianca Andreescu Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the two ladies on the WTA Tour.

Swiatek Bags her 25th Straight Win

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek is on fire. She has now won 25 matches consecutively spread across three WTA 1000 titles (Indian Wells, Miami Open, WTA Doha), one WTA 500 title in Stuttgart, and her ongoing stint in Rome.

Her tally for the season as of Thursday stands at 34-4; the only players to have beaten her this year are Jelena Ostapenko, Danielle Collins, and Ashleigh Barty.

Swiatek has her sight set on the French Open and should she successfully defend her title here in the Italian Open, she would have given herself a massive boost ahead of the Slam. Even if she doesn’t, that doesn’t matter because she is a heavy favourite nonetheless.

So far this week, the 20-year-old Pole has hardly broken a sweat – she dismissed Elena-Gabriela Ruse and the former world number one Victoria Azarenka in straight sets, serving bagels and breadsticks along the way.

Over the year, she has also dismantled other top 20 players like Naomi Osaka, Maria Sakkari, Jessica Pegula, Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep, Aryna Sabalenka, and Anett Kontaveit. Adding Andreescu to this list shouldn’t be difficult but the Canadian poses a definite threat.

Andreescu Finds her Rhythm in Rome

Former World No. 4 Bianca Andreescu is on a terrific resurgent run at the moment. Having been out of action for most of this season due to a knee injury, the current world number 90 is making a strong comeback on the tour.

It has been gradual progress – the 21-year-old started in Stuttgart where she fell in round two. Then, she reached the third round in Madrid after surpassing Danielle Collins and Alison Riske and now, she has made it to the quarterfinal in Rome.

Impressively enough, this is her first time in this clay tournament.

Andreescu is playing under the protected ranking norm and has so far prevailed over Emma Raducanu, Nuria Parrizas Diaz, and Petra Martic in straight sets.

Swiatek v Andreescu Prediction and Tip

Both players have a rather similar pedigree – they are both Grand Slam winners and have got a few WTA 1000 titles under their belts. Swiatek, however, has twice as many such trophies and does have a superior clay prowess.

This makes her the favourite in this match but given Andreescu’s excessive power and shot placement, she can trouble the Pole. Plus, Bianca also has the physical endurance to match Swiatek’s energy – making this an evenly game.
