Ons Jabeur v Daria Kasatkina Head to Head

Jabeur leads 3-2 head to head. While Kasatkina won their first two meetings in 2016 and 2018, Jabeur has won the three most recent meetings played between 2021 and this year.

The Tunisian beat Kasatkina in the Birmingham for her first WTA title last year and then defeated her again in Montreal. This year, Jabeur defeated Kasatkina in the Round of 16 in Stuttgart.

Jabeur Eliminates Sakkari Following Incredible Fightback

World No. 7 Ons Jabeur made an epic comeback to defeat Greece’s Maria Sakkari on Friday and extend her unbeaten run to 10 matches.

Jabeur, who won her maiden WTA 1000 title in Madrid last week, has kept the winning run going in Rome. But while she won the first three rounds in straight sets, she had to sweat it out against the 2019 semifinalist on Friday.

The fourth seed Sakkari almost had a foot in the semifinals as she built a 6-1, 5-2 lead, but despite a two-break advantage in the second, Sakkari failed to close out the match thanks to the Tunisian’s gallant comeback effort.

Turning the tables completely, Jabeur won five games in a row in the second set and forced the decider. The momentum had completely shifted by then and Jabeur continued to dominate the third. She lost just one more game on her way to a 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory.

In the earlier rounds, Jabeur had beaten Sorana Cîrstea, Ajla Tomljanović and Yulia Putintseva in straight sets.

Having never won a match in Rome before, Jabeur now stands on the brink of a second consecutive WTA 1000 final. Can she extend her streak?

Kasatkina Into Third Semifinal of the Season

World No. 23 Daria Kasatkina marched into the semifinals in Rome for the first time in her career after her quarterfinal opponent, Jil Teichmann couldn’t complete the contest.

After exchanging three breaks each in the first set, Kasatkina edged ahead with a fourth break to take the first set 6-4. She was up 3-2 in the second when Teichmann, who needed a medical timeout after the third game, retired from the contest.

Kasatkina is now one win from her second WTA 1000 final. She had finished runner-up in Indian Wells in 2018.

The 25-year-old improved to 18-9 following Friday’s win. She had started the season in great fashion, reaching the semifinals in Melbourne and Sydney, but had struggled to reach even the quarterfinals in the next seven tournaments.

In Rome, she defeated top 30 players in Tamara Zidanšek and Leylah Fernandez in the first two rounds and then knocked out the second seed Paula Badosa in the Round of 16.

The four-time WTA winner will be aiming to reach a 10th final on Saturday.
