Tommy Paul v Tallon Griekspoor Head to Head

It will be a first meeting between the two.

Paul Searching for Form on Clay

With just two wins from four clay court tournaments this year, Tommy Paul has clearly struggled to find his feet on dirt. The World No. 34 had produced decent results on hard courts earlier in the season, but has lost his form ever since the tour shifted to clay.

Paul was a semifinalist in Delray Beach and reached the last eight in both the Adelaide events and in Acapulco. He also won two matches each in Indian Wells and Miami, but has found it tough to keep the rhythm going on clay, winning just one round in Houston and one in Rome.

He will however take heart from the first round win at the Italian Open as it came against clay-court specialist Albert Ramos-Vinolas. His run ended with a second round defeat to Alex de Minaur.

Overall, Paul has a 44% win record on clay which is much inferior to his 54% win record on hard courts.

The 24-year-old American, who won the Stockholm Open last year, will be hoping to start off with a win on his main draw debut in Geneva and then build on that start to get some form behind him ahead of the French Open.

Griekspoor Struggling to Win Matches

World No. 67 Tallon Griekspoor is 5-9 this season. The 25-year-old Dutchman started off well by reaching the quarterfinals in Melbourne and making his second round debut at the Australian Open, but he has failed to keep the momentum going.

Griekspoor’s last significant win came over Canada’s Steven Diez in the Davis Cup. On the tour, he has not won a match since beating Aslan Karatsev in the first round in Rotterdam.

Currently, Griekspoor is on a five-match losing streak in the main draws. He did win two qualifying matches in Rome last week, beating two good players in Adrian Mannarino and Marcos Giron. The Dutch, who has eight clay court titles at the Challenger level, will look to draw inspiration from those wins as he makes his first appearance in Geneva on Sunday.
