Francisco Cerundulo v James Duckworth Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 23 year old Argentine, and the Australian, who is seven years older.

Cerundolo Struggling to Adapt to European Conditions

In the early part of the year it looked like the younger of the Cerundulo brothers was struggling to replicate the form that saw him break on to the scene in 2021, winning his first major ATP title in Argentina, and going to reach the NextGen ATP finals.

Although he won a Challenger tournament in Bolivia and reached the semi-finals in Rio, they were on familiar conditions of South American clay, and few could have anticipated what he would go on to achieve in Miami, where he reached the semi-finals, claiming a number of high profile scalps along the way, including Reilly Opelka, Gael Monfils, and Jannik Sinner.

He has found the move to the European clay court circuit more difficult, and has yet to go beyond the first round of any event he has entered, In Rome he did come through two rounds of qualifying to make the main draw, but was beaten in the first round by the American, John Isner.

Duckworth Returns After Surgery

This will be Duckworth’s first match back after undergoing surgery following the Australian Open.

He had been hampered by a hip injury since the start of the year, which forced him to pull out of the opening match of the ATP Cup where he was due to play for Australia.

Duckworth tried to give the Australian Open a shot, was knocked out in the first round, and then decided to go under the knife for the ninth time in his career.

It means that he has had virtually no time to get used to clay, and he will not be expecting too much of himself in Geneva, because he is better known as a hard court player. It will just be a relief to get back on court again.

Cerundulo v Duckworth Prediction and Tip

Although Cerundulo has struggled to adapt to European conditions so far, this is an ideal chance to gain some confidence ahead of Paris against a man playing his first competitive match in almost four months after yet another injury lay-off.

Tip: Cerundulo to win: 3/7 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
