Solid But Not Great From Molcan

Alex Molcan made somewhat of a breakthrough last year by getting inside the top 100. A player most known for his clay prowess played rather well on hard courts in America. He earned a ton of points and he is in the top 100. Many expected him to rise even further but so far despite the 13-11 record, it’s not been all that great.

On clay, it’s 7-5 with some solid wins but also some very disappointing losses. He plays aggressively and sometimes that style of play gets him beaten easily against players that know how to defend well. Molcan started working with former Djokovic coach Marian Vajda recently so that will be interesting to see.

There is some potential and the Slovakian coach will try to get the best out of the Slovakian player. Time will tell but a good chance for him will be this Lyon Open event. Up first Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Penultimate Event For Tsonga

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will say goodbye to tennis in Paris soon and his second to last event ever will be the Lyon Open. Tsonga has not been able to compete on the highest level for a very long time now. Injuries, age and simply a lacklustre tennis level all contributed to this.

Tsonga hopes to play as many matches as he can before retiring but it’s likely he only plays this one and one more in Paris. His level has not been good and anytime he played this year it was quite evident that any top 100 ranked player should have no issues against him.

He’s been okay on clay historically but at this stage of his career, it’s not pretty. He’s 3-8 on the year and 0-2 overall and there is a reason he is retiring soon. He’s simply done.

Molcan v Tsonga Prediction and Tip

So this match is rather easy to predict. Tsonga won’t win it despite playing in front of his native crowd. He should enjoy it though and that’s the whole point of it. Molcan simply has too much tennis skill for Tsonga at this moment and far more energy and bounce in his step.

He moves better so he should be able to wear him out and grin out the win if need be. Maybe Tsonga wins the set, but the match? No chance. Take Molcan to cruise.

Tip: Molcan to win in straight sets: 11/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
