Savilla Yet to Win on Clay this Season

Former Strasbourg finalist Daria Saville will be looking to get her first win on clay this season.

The 28-year-old Australian player, who didn’t play much in 2020 and 2021 due to an achilles tendon injury and a subsequent surgery, had made a good start to the 2022 season, reaching the quarterfinals in Miami and Guadalajara and the fourth round at Indian Wells. However, she is yet to win a match on clay.

She was knocked out in the first round in Madrid by Anastasia Potapova  and was sent packing by Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia in the opening round in the WTA 125 tournament in Paris earlier this month.

Saville had reached the final in Strasbourg in 2017 only to finish runner-up to Samantha Stosur. She was also a quarterfinalist in 2019 and will be looking to get her 2022 campaign off to a good start on Monday.

Friedsam to Take Confidence From Karlsruhe

After a disappointing run for most part of the season, World no. 249 Anna-Lena Friedsam finally found some form in the WTA 125 in Karlsruhe this week.

Friedsam knocked out Ella Seidel, top seed Alison Van Uytvanck and seventh seed Dalma Gálfi on her way to the semifinals, but retired from her final four contest against Bernarda Pera while she trailed 5-7, 0-2.

If the German is completely fit on Monday, she will be looking to keep her form going in Strasbourg.

In 2022, Friedsam had won just three matches from all levels before this week and had lost 11. But a solid run in Karsruhe would have given her a lot of confidence. The 28-year-old is a two-time finalist on the tour and had peaked to a career high of 34 in 2020.

Can she make a good start in Strasbourg?

Saville v Friedsam Prediction and Tip

Despite Friedsam’s form, Saville will hold the edge in this contest. She has a slightly better record and has done well in Strasbourg in the past editions. Expect Saville to advance to the next round.

Tip: Saville to win in straight sets: 10/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
