World No. 85 Kaja Juvan has done well to qualify for most of the main draws this year and has won four of her six first round matches this year. That includes opening round wins in Adelaide International, St. Petersburg, Qatar and the Indian Wells Open.
The 21-year-old Slovenian is a good player on clay and has won seven titles on the surface at the ITF level, while finishing runner-up four times.
Juvan hasn’t been able to succeed on clay this year. She won one and lost one qualifying round in Madrid, failing to make the main draw. But she qualified for Rome after beating Eleonora Alvisi and Nuria Parrizas-Diaz, however, lost her opening round match to Yulia Putintseva.
Juvan’s biggest win this season was over Aryna Sabalenka in the season opener in Adelaide, where she was a quarterfinalist. She hasn’t won two consecutive main draw matches since then, but will look to win another opening round match on Monday.

Glushko Comes Through Qualifiers
Facing Juvan will be Israel’s Lina Glushko.
The 22-year-old qualified for the main draw after winning both her qualifying rounds. She beat Estonia’s Elena Malygina 6-1, 6-3 on Saturday and Russia’s Angelina Gabueva in three on Sunday.
Glushko has displayed good form at the ITF level this season, finishing runner-up in the hard court events in Cancun and Pretoria.
In all, she has two titles at the ITF level and four runner-up finishes. Ranked No. 293rd in the world, Glushko will look to make an impression in Strasbourg.

Juvan will be expected to start with a convincing win. She is the experienced player and has delivered better results on clay in the past.
