Anna Karolina Schmiedlova v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head

It’s advantage Tomljanovic with 2-0; the Australia last beat her upcoming adversary in the 2022 WTA Sydney in straight sets.

Schmiedlova Tames Reyngold

Anna Karolina Schmiedlova started her campaign in Morocco with a 6-1, 6-2 win over the WTA Tour debutant Ekaterina Reyngold. The Slovak, not so surprisingly, won an impressive 75% of the points on the first serve and bagged an impressive 12 games in a row.

She is looking to reclaim her former glory after spending the last few years in mediocrity and battling form woes. Currently ranked World No. 89, Schmiedlova’s last major singles final on tour came in the 2019 WTA Hobart although, she did win the Belgrade Challenger last year.

The Slovakian is 9-10 this season and has lost the opening-round matches in her last four tournaments. In Saint-Malo Challenger, she fell to Tamara Korpatsch while in Madrid, she lost to Cori Gauff after clearing the two qualifying matches.

In Istanbul and Bogota, Schmiedlova was handed shocking losses by Lesia Tsurenko and Yuliana Lizarazo respectively. Such has been the case for most of this season for the 27-year-old, whose best run came in WTA Guadalajara and the Marbella Challenger where she made it to the quarterfinal.

With such a form and momentum, it is hard to imagine her dismissing Tomljanovic – who has had a comparatively better year this season.

Tomljanovic Starts Strong

Ajla Tomljanovic is also off to a good start in the WTA Rabat as she defeated Spain’s Irene Burillo Escorihuela 6-2, 6-1. The number two seed has a good chance of making it to the final here – seeing that she is the strongest in her bracket (at least on paper).

Should she dismiss Schmiedlova, she will potentially face Anna Bondar, Mayar Sherif, or Rebecca Peterson on her way to the final. In the process, the 29-year-old has also got a chance to post her best results of the season.

Up until now, Tomljanovic’s best run came in Istanbul where she reached the quarterfinal before losing to Yulia Putintseva. In other tournaments, like the Slovak, she has been dismissed in the early stages. That said, she managed to crack the top 40 for the first time in her career but couldn’t quite maintain her grip there.

The current World No. 44 last featured in Madrid and Rome where she lost to Garbine Muguruza and Ons Jabeur respectively.

Tomljanovic v Schmiedlova Prediction and Tip

Tomljanovic will start as the favourite – at least on paper – and should do well to win this one. After all, most of her defeats this season have come at the hands of higher-ranked players and Schmiedlova is clearly not in that league at the moment.

Tip: Tomljanovic to win: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
