What’s Happened to Ostapenko?

Picture this. Ostapenko, coming off a title win in 2021, reached a respectable third round at Australian Open and then motored off to three successive sterling showings.

At St. Petersburg, she reached the semifinal, was a title winner at Dubai and shocked Amanda Anisimova, Barbora Krejcikova and Garbine Muguruza in Doha to make it to the semifinals.

A loss in the last four stage there, at the hands of Anett Kontaveit wasn’t that big of a surprise but what’s followed has been one.

Because that defeat to Kontaveit was her first of five losses in a row. Yep, Ostapenko’s results have suddenly veered off the track as the Latvian has lost in the first round at Indian Wells Open, Miami Open, Madrid Open and WTA Rome.

The last of these losses came at the hands of Lauren Davis, who was a whopping 16/5 odds going into the match.

Can Ostapenko turn her fortunes around as quickly as they had dwindled away?

Bronzetti Has Had a Strong Season

Having never been ranked better than 79th in the world, Bronzetti will enter her first ever edition of French Open knowing she has the form on her side.

The 23-year-old has already pocketed an ITF title this season with the tournament played on clay, following on from a fourth round appearance at Miami despite starting out as a qualifier.

And while her forays at Madrid and Rome did not lead to any success, Bronzetti has had some success coming into her maiden French Open.

Featuring in the Rabat Open in the week before the season’s Grand Slam, Bronzetti had reached the semifinal of that competition at the time of this writing. And even if she lost at that stage, Bronzetti would have improved to 72nd on the WTA charts – her career-best ranking.

Can she take advantage of Ostapenko’s form though?
