Norrie Survives Baez Test

Last year’s runner-up Cameron Norrie is one win away from another final in Lyon after the Briton outlasted Sebastean Baez in a two-hour-and-40-minute quarterfinal.

In a match that swung from one end to the other, the seventh seed Argentine saved three match points in the ninth and 10th games of the third set to stay in the contest, but Norrie eventually converted a fourth in the 12th game of the set for a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 victory.

The World No. 11, who had begun his campaign with a 6-4, 6-4 win over another Argentine Francisco Cerundolo, will be competing in his third semifinal of the season on Friday. He won both his previous semifinal matches this year, going on to win the title in Delray Beach and finish runner-up in Acapulco.

Thursday’s win improved his season record to 22-12 and his clay court record to 7-4 this season.

Rune Rebounds to Top Guinard

World No. 40 Holger Rune continued to build on an impressive season as the 19-year-old reached a second semifinal of the year following a comeback win over France’s Manuel Guinard.

The World No. 158 Guinard got the only break of the first set to go one set up. But he couldn’t break again in the match as Rune broke once in each of the last two sets to win the contest 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and 11 minutes. In all Rune had 13 break points in the match and he took just two of them. His opponent had seven chances to break the Dane while he could capitalize on just one of those.

The win was Rune’s eight consecutive main draw victory, which began with his run to a maiden ATP title in Munich.

In Lyon, Rune had beaten Arthur Rinderknech in two tough sets in the first round. He continued his momentum in the second round, beating Adrian Mannarino, also in two.

Thursday’s win improved him to 12-9 for the season. Will his streak continue on Friday?

Norrie v Rune Prediction and Tip

Norrie has a pretty good record in Lyon. He was a semifinalist in 2018 on debut and a finalist in 2021. He will now be looking to go a step ahead and win the title. Expect him to end Rune’s streak on Friday and enter a third final of the season.

Tip: Norrie to win in straight sets: 13/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
