Claire Liu v Anna Bondar Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Liu Inches Toward her Maiden WTA Final

Claire Liu has had a remarkable week in Rabat as she finds herself on the cusp of the first WTA final of her career. The 21-year-old has dismissed the likes of Kamilla Rakhimova, Mayar Sherif, and Astra Sharma to make it this far.

This stint follows her title run in the Challenger event just last week in Paris where she knocked out the Varvara Gracheva, Kaia Kanepi, and Beatriz Haddad Maia en route to her maiden WTA 125 trophy.

Earlier in the season, the American made it to the third round in Charleston after dismissing Shuai Zhang and Heather Watson. She also reached the second round in the Indian Wells Open.

Admittedly, Liu’s record is a bit thin when it comes to clay tournaments but the young American has been fairly impressive in how she has fared so far in her career. Last year, she made it to four ITF finals – two on clay – and made her top 100 debut. This season, she broke into the top 90 and following this run, she is bound to go further up.

Bondar Benefits from Tomljanovic Retirement

Number five seed Anna Bondar of Hungary has benefited from the early retirement of the second seed Ajla Tomljanovic in the quarterfinal.

After dismissing Cristiana Ferrando and Kristina Kucova in the preceding rounds, Bondar was slated for a tough match but as it turns out, luck had different plans for her. She took a 5-1 lead before Tomljanovic decided to retire from the game.

That said, the 24-year-old is at the peak of her form; she is World No. 67 (a career-best for her) and most recently reached the semis in the Karlsruhe Challenger. She has also had a relatively better run on the WTA Tour as she was a quarterfinalist in Istanbul and Lyon, and had a second-round appearance in Melbourne Set 1.

Compared to Liu, she also has a much superior pedigree with 16 ITF singles finals and 20 doubles finals on the clay courts. Bondar also won her first Challenger trophy last year – once again on this surface.

Liu v Bondar Prediction and Tip

Bondar will start as the favourite on account of her experience, pedigree, and overall form. Liu poses a definite threat and may take this to three sets but ultimately, the Hungarian should come out on the top.

Tip: Over 20.5 Games, Bondar to Win: 8/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
