As we write the preview for Karolian Pliskova’s opener at the French Open, the Czech is preparing to play in the semifinals of the Strasbourg Open.
The World No. 8, who missed the early part of the season due to a hand injury, had won just two of her eight matches in 2022 before the start of the tournament in Strasbourg this week.
The top seed defeated Marta Kostyuk, Bernarda Pera and Maryna Zanevska en route the final four, where she is scheduled to meet Kaja Juvan later today.
A two-time major finalist, the former No. 1 is yet to win a Grand Slam title. She was a runner-up at the U.S. Open in 2016 and at Wimbledon last year. She hasn’t had much success in TRoland Garros, having made the semifinals just once in her previous 10 appearances.
Last year, the 30-year-old had bowed out of the second round in Paris.
Pliskova will be desperate to win the title in Strasbourg as that will give her a huge boost ahead of her first major of the season.

Andrianjafitrimo Gets a Wild Card
Facing Pliskova will be 23-year-old French player Tessah Andrianjafitrimo, who will be making her third main draw appearance in the Paris major.
Andrianjafitrimo is yet to win a match at Roland Garros, but has been handed a wild card folowing a promising season at the ITF level. She won her sixth ITF title in Ecuador in March and reached her 12th final in France in April. She also has a couple of semifinal finishes at that level this season.
Most recently, she competed in Rabat, making the season’s first tour-level main draw as a lucky loser, but went down fighting in the opening round to Kristina Mladenovic.
She will be hoping to make an impression with a decent showing in the opening round.

Pliskova will be the overwhelming favourite in this match. Expect the Czech to make quick work of the wild card.
