Hubert Hurkacz v Giulio Zeppieri Head to Head

There have been no previous meetings between Hurkacz and Zeppieri.

Hurkacz Shocked at Rome

Following back to back appearances in the quarterfinals of both, Monte Carlo and Madrid Masters, Hurkacz would have loved to round off his clay court campaigns in the leadup to the French Open with a solid showing in Rome.

Instead, drawn to play David Goffin in the first round there, Hurkacz fell in two tie-breakers to leave him with something to chew on.

Clay isn’t Hurkacz’s most preferred surface and one can be sure about that. After all, the four-time ATP competition winner has won just one match in four French Open appearances and none over his last three.

He could take something out of his Monte-Carlo Masters appearance where he overcame some of the top clay court players from the second rung –  Pedro Martinez and Albert Ramos-Vinolas included – and then again at Madrid where he overcame Alejandro Fokina and Dusan Lajovic.

Can he start things off without too much trouble against the qualifier?

Zeppieri Eases Through the Qualifiers

A quarterfinal appearance at the Rome Challenger late last month and then qualifying to play in the first round of the Rome Masters ensured that Zeppieri would scoot up to his career-best ranking of 215th in the world.

That opening round match on his Masters 1000 debut was also just his third main draw match at the highest level. While Zeppieri fell to Karen Khachanov in straight sets, he gave enough indication of how things could shape up for the 20-year-old in the times to come. The future does look bright.

What’s been a tad surprising is his form otherwise hasn’t been the best with Zeppieri ending the month of April on a 2-5 win-loss record spread across five Challenger tournaments.

Can he put up a fight on his Grand Slam debut?

Hurkacz v Zeppieri Prediction and Tip

Hurkacz might not have had the best time on clay but against a player ranked outside the top 200, his win sounds like a safe bet. Zeppieri might win a set though.
