Marino Flies Past Qualifying Opponents
World No. 116 Rebecca Marino is into the main draw of the French Open for the second time in her career after she put up a dominant show in the qualifying rounds.
The 31-year-old Canadian, who reached the third round at Roland Garros on her debut in 2011, defeated Paula Ormaechea 6-4, 6-3, Katarina Zavatska 6-1, 6-2 and Seone Mendez 6-2, 6-0 to enter the main draw.
Marino, who prefers playing on hard courts more than other surfaces, doesn’t have a great record on clay. This year she has a 27-8 record from all competitions, which includes runs to three ITF finals. She won one of those claim her 13th ITF title, but finished runner-up in the other two.
