Kostyuk Set to Unleash her Talent In Paris

Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk had stormed into the round of 16 last year in Roland Garros, winning her first 3 matches in straight sets only to bump into Iga Swiatek.

Kostyuk won the Australian Open juniors title in 2017 and has since emerged as one the better talents in the WTA tour. It is only a matter of time before she sets one of the Grand Slams into fire with a deep run.

She plays very well on clay and had a 74% winning percentage on clay in the previous three years. This year however results haven’t gone her way and she is only 3-3 on clay.

Kostyuk is an incredible talent and her form maybe misleading. She reached the 3rd round in the Australian Open and has generally performed well in the Majors.

The Ukrainian has all the tools in the game and is only aged 19 right now. She is ranked world number 59, ten places below her career best ranking.

Sherif Arrives in Paris With her Career Best Ranking

Mayar Sherif won the WTA title in Karlsruhe last week for a second year in a row. She is now ranked 50, which is her career best ranking. Sherif also won the WTA Marbella title in April which was on clay.

Sherif is 12-3 on clay this year and 16-11 on all surfaces. Her entire game is built for the red surface and she now has an incredible 62 wins on clay since the beginning of 2020.

This will be Sherif’s second appearance in the main draw of the Roland Garros. She has never made it into the second round.

The world number 50 likes to dominate her opponents and uses brute power in her rallies. Her serve is very strong and is not easily broken. If she can get through a nervous first match, she has all the possibilities to make a run to the round of 16 at least.

Kostyuk v Sherif Prediction and Tip

This is difficult match for both players, neither would have been happy seeing the draw. The match can get very tense if the crowd gets into it. While Kostyuk has every skill set in the tennis book, her serve is susceptible to break down. Tough to go with either side, should be over games.
