Laaksonen won their only meeting at the French Open in 2019.

Martinez on a Five-Match Losing Streak

It’s been an up and down year for Pedro Martinez. The Spaniard won his maiden title in Santiago, but hasn’t been able to play at the same level in the other tournaments.

Martinez is currently on a four-match skid. The last time he won a match was in the first round in Monte-Carlo. Since losing in the next round, he lost his opening round matches in Barcelona, Madrid, Rome and Lyon.

The 25-year-old, who prefers playing on clay, is 8-7 on the surface this year.

Martinez will be playing at the French Open for the fourth time. His best was a third round appearance in 2020, while last year he exited in the second round.

Laaksonen Has Not Won Since March

Henri Laaksonen, too, will be playing in the main draw at Roland Garros for the fourth time. The 30-year-old Swiss stunned Roberto Bautista Agut to reach the third round last year, but retired after a set in the round of 32 in what was his best ever performance at the Paris major.

Laaksonen comes to this year’s edition with a 4-8 season record, with two of those wins coming in the Davis Cup over Lebanon. His last win came in March in the first round in Miami.

The Swiss player has a 42% win record on clay. With him not in form, Laaksonen may struggle in the opener.

Martinez v Laaksonen Prediction and Tip

Martinez is the better player. He has done well over the last one year and will be eager to get back to winning ways.
