Maria Sakkari v Karolina Muchova Head to Head
They played two times before with the most recent one coming last year in Madrid. Muchova won that one 6-0 6-7(9) 7-5.

Maria Sakkari had some tough weeks on the tour in the recent weeks with her clay performances far from good. In Madrid she bombed against Daria Kasatkina, in Rome she threw away a huge lead against Ons Jabeur despite improving her tennis compared to Madrid.
That improvement went up another level for the French Open where she opened with a solid win over Clara Burel. Sakkari admitted that Roland Garros is her favourite event and it certainly looks that way. She was inches away from a final last year and she will try to get there this year.
The year has been excellent with a 20-9 record but she certainly can do even better, especially on clay which seems like her best surface.

Muchova Slowly Getting Back
Karolina Muchova was once ranked inside the top 20 with wins over Ashleigh Barty in Melbourne on her resume. Now, she’s back into the top 100 but the Czech player is far from her best. She is slowly getting there and showing glimpses of it like she did in Miami when she bested Leylah Fernandez.
Muchova struggled with injuries but now fully healthy she needs playing time. She has precise groundstrokes and a very good serve which should suit her well at Roland Garros. She played a really good match in round one and that will give her confidence moving forward.
She’s 4-2 on the year and 2-2 on clay. She played well in Madrid and Rome but simply lost to better players at the moment. That’s her problem, getting her high level back. Once she does, she will be very tough.
Sakkari v Muchova Prediction and Tip
Their Madrid match from last year is a very good indicator how this matchup might shape up if they were on the same level. However, they are not, because Muchova is not there yet. It’s a shame because this would been a very good matchup as they play each other very close.
Sakkari should win this match but expect her to have a bit of difficulty. Muchova won’t be scared of this matchup and she will certainly fancy her to win it however I don’t think she will have enough. We might see three sets as it’s Sakkari, you never know when she will forger to play tennis.
However, I do think she’s far better at the moment and she should win this match. If Sakkari loses it would be a major upset.
