Madison Brengle v Mihaela Buzărnescu Head to Head
While these two have never faced off in a match at the WTA level, they did play once on the ITF circuit. Brengle had won that encounter in 2018 on an indoor hard court.

After making an underwhelming start to the clay court season, Brengle looked to have found some rhythm to the proceedings at the WTA 125 competition in Saint-Malo.
The American, who had lost in the first round in Charleston and in the opening qualifier in Madrid, made it past Lauren Davis and Heather Watson at Saint-Malo.
Brengle would have then gotten knocked out of the qualifiers at Rome too but for a chance to get to the main draw as a lucky loser. She made the most out of it when she shocked Marta Kostyuk in the opener only to lose in the second round.
Clay isn’t quite Brengle’s forte though as her best showing of second round at French Open suggests. At this stage of her career though, Brengle would hope to emulate that this year.

Buzărnescu Makes it Through as a Lucky Loser
Once ranked 20th in the world, Buzărnescu has fallen off the rails as she grapples with her opportunities that might help keep her in the top 100. Unfortunately for Buzărnescu, she hasn’t been in the top 100 on the WTA rankings charts since 2019.
With the pandemic ensuring Buzărnescu would end up with just four matches under her belt in 2020, even a reasonably good season on the ITF circuit in 2021 did not help her too much.
This year, Buzărnescu’s stocks have fallen even further with just five wins from 13 matches and just one in the main draw of the WTA 125 levels.
At the French Open this year, Buzărnescu lost to Mirjam Bjorklund in the final round of qualification but has still managed to make it through as a lucky loser. Can she continue to get her luck going still?
