Marin Cilic v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

Cilic Crushes Another Hungarian

Cilic has a fine record at Roland Garros, having twice been a quarter-finalist here, and making the fourth round on three other occasions. And he began his latest campaign in emphatic fashion, crushing Fucsovics’ fellow countryman Attila Balazs in straight sets for the loss of just three games.

The world number 262 seemed completely out of his depth in the first set and was whitewashed, unable to deal with the Croat’s serve.

He improved marginally in the second set to the extent that he did hold serve once, but three more breaks told their own story.

And Cilic broke him again early in the third  set and just cruised to victory, one more break just underlining his dominance. The match lasted just 91 minutes.

Can he continue to remain as clinical come round two too?

Fucsovics Cruises Past French Qualifier

Fucsovics has a more modest record in Paris, although he did reach the fourth round here two years ago, matching his best performance in a Grand Slam event.

He was made to work a little harder in his first round match by the French qualifier, Geoffrey Blancaneaux, but, ultimately it was a comfortable win for the Hungarian number one.

Two breaks of serve were enough to earn him the first set, and two more breaks put him in control of the second. Blancaneaux briefly fought back with a break of his own, but it was not enough to stop Fucsovics doubling his advantage.

The pair swapped breaks at the start of the third set and again a few games later, before the Frenchman was broken once more, giving Fucsovics the chance to serve for the match.

What proved to be the final game had more than its fair share of drama, with Fucsovics seeing five match points saved, whilst Blancaneaux was unable to convert two break points of his own, Finally, though, the Hungarian made his sixth match point count.

Cilic v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

Cilic has won both their two previous matches, and has already shown how much he likes playing Hungarian opposition in Paris, Fucsovics should give him a better game than his compatriot, but the Croat will be confident of making the third round yet again.
