Ekaterina Alexandrova v Irina Begu Head to Head

They played three times with Begu winning all three. The most recent one came in 2021 in Cleveland. Begu won it 7-6(3) 6-3.

Alexandrova Cruising Past Minnen

Ekaterina Alexandrova faced very few issues in dispatching Greet Minnen in round one 7-5 6-3. It’s no wonder, The Russian has been playing really good tennis as of late compared to Minnen who never played well on clay.

The Russian absolutely dominated on her serve dropping only two points in the entire match(94%). She faced two break points saving one of them. On return, she had 11 break points converting three.

Alexandrova was quite aggressive in the match blasting 29 winners to only 19 mistakes. Her opponent could not keep up that rhythm hitting only 14 winners and committing 20 mistakes. Alexandrova is now 17-10 on the year with a 13-4 record on clay.

Most of those wins came in Madrid and since then she’s cooled off a bit. She still likes to attack and Roland is a bit faster this year so that might suit her. Her peak was the 3rd round and a win here would get here there. She only needs to beat someone she never did before.

Tough Win Over Paolini For Begu

Beating Jasmine Paolini on clay is no small feat it’s no wonder Begu needed over two hours to do it. A close 3-setter ended with Begu squeezing out a win in an epic tiebreak 12-10 to complete the final score of 5-7 6-1 7-6(10).

It was as close as you can imagine with neither playing particularly dominating in any facet of the game. Begu was solid both on her first and second serve but amazing on neither. She saved 4 of 7 break points she faced so that’s pretty good.

Overall she had 29 winners and 38 mistakes which is not that good but it was good enough to beat Paolini who was even worse with a 15-33 ratio. It’s been an okay year for Begu with a 13-10 record and 5-2 on clay. She can play well on the surface but she needs to be consitent.

She will likely try to attack as much as possible but it’s unclear how much Alexandrova will allow her that. If she produces the same effort as against Paolini she will likely get beaten.

Alexandrova v Begu Prediction and Tip

So Alexandrova is the favourite in this one and for good reason. She has had the better year so far, she is playing in better form although it did dip a bit lately. She possesses the better groundstrokes in my opinion though Begu might serve a bit better.

Overall I just like her to get her first win over the Romanian who gave her trouble in the past. Keep that 0-3 H2H in mind as well. Sometimes a matchup problem is something too much to overcome.

Tip: Alexandrova to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
