Karolina Pliskova was in quite some trouble against Tessah Andrianjafitrimo because she lost the opening set with 2-6 and then was down a break in the 2nd. Luckily for Pliskova she was able to get herself together and rally to win the 2nd set with 6-3 and then the final one with 6-1.
It was a tale of two halves for that match. Pliskova was nervous to start it, served poorly and sprayed too many errors. In the next two, she served much better allowing her better positions on the court and way more winners than errors.
That is the key to her game, her serve. The better she serves the easier it will be for her. She needs to keep it over 70 % and things will be much easier. She moves well on clay and can attack from many angles with the forehand as the main weapon.
Pliskova is still only 6-7 on the year but things are slowly improving and she is already looking more comfortable than last week in Strasbourg. That’s a positive trend.

First Roland Garros Win for Jeanjean
Wild card Jeanjean got a chance to play n the main draw of Roland Garros and she completely took it. Playing experienced veteran Nuria Parrizas Diaz she was able to score a 6-4 6-3 win in about 90 minutes of play.
It was a match in which Jeanjean trailed 2-4 in the opening set only to rally and win it. In the 2nd she played much better and cruised to a 6-3 finish.
Backed by her fans, Jeanjean attacked the entire match with great success hitting 28 winners to only 18 mistakes. She did not serve well at all which makes this match quite impressive. She simply outplayed the Spaniard from the baseline and that’s difficult to do.
She needs a similar blueprint against Pliskova but the execution must be better. Her 2nd serve will be punished by the Czech player because it’s rather weak. Nuria did it and she’s far worse than Pliskova. 8 double faults also need to be eliminated.
Pliskova v Jeanjean Prediction and Tip
Karolina Pliskova should win this match simply because she is the better player. She needs to avoid serving woes and spraying errors under the pressure of the native French crowd. Jeanjean will try to get the crowd to be as loud as possible because she thrives on that.
For the French player, the serve will be everything. If she keeps her fist one high she might be tricky to beat. If not she’s done. I’ll trust Pliskova more this time.
