Carlos Alcaraz v Sebastian Korda Head to Head

They played twice before and both won one match. Korda won the most recent one in Monte-Carlo 7-6(2) 6-7(5) 6-3 which turned out to the last time Alcaraz lost a match.

Alcaraz Survives Thriller Against Ramos

Carlos Alcaraz was on the brink of defeat a few times against Albert Ramos but when he needed it the most, he produced his best tennis to survive and win it in 5. It was a superb match despite Alcaraz not being at his best for a better part of it.

In the end, his youth proved crucial as Ramos ran out of steam towards the end of it. Alcaraz blasted 74 winners in this match but he also committed 74 errors and that was his main issue. He will always play a risky style and errors will always be a factor but if he’s not in the plus with winners and errors it might be an issue.

There is a very good chance Alcaraz would have lost this match if he played a younger Ramos. He was really struggling with control of the ball. That’s something that will need to change against Korda if he hopes to keep winning. The American bested him before and Alcaraz remembers that.

It was one of the more underwhelming performances of the year from Alcaraz and he will be eager to change that.

Cruise-Control for Korda

Sebastian Korda broke out at the French Open a couple of years ago when he reached the 4th round losing to his idol Rafael Nadal. Now, in 2022, he is playing a very good event reaching the 3rd round after wins over veterans Millman and Gasquet.

Neither challenged Korda much although Gasquet had moments where he gave the young American some trouble. Korda plays a very typical American style. Huge serve, great forehand but also rather good movement as well. He rarely produces a lacklustre performance but he can get nervous at times.

Under pressure, he’s been known to buckle and he will be under major pressure against Alcaraz. He will need his serve (17 aces in two matches) and he will need to keep hitting winners (50 against Gasquet). If those things work he will be in good shape against Alcaraz.

The blueprint from Monte-Carlo should work in theory but it’s unlikely Alcaraz plays that badly again. It’s his best bet though so he should be prepared to use it.

Alcaraz v Korda Prediction and Tip

This is a very interesting matchup because Sebastian Korda bested Alcaraz earlier this year on clay. It was a huge upset but it came after Alcaraz produced a very bad effort with many mistakes. He can’t afford to do that again as he will get punished. The effort against Ramos should not happen again and if it doesn’t he should win.

For Korda, it will be all about putting pressure on Alcaraz. If he can push him around with the serve and forehand it should give him more chances. Otherwise, he will in trouble because he doesn’t have the raw power or finesse skill to really challenge him. Take Alcaraz.
