Nikoloz Basilashvili v Lorenzo Musetti Head to Head

This will be their first meeting.

Bad Season for Basilashvili

Nikoloz Basilashvili is only 8-17 on the season and it’s been generally a struggle. The Georgian is a very polarizing player because he is capable of producing a superb level but sometimes things are simply not going his way.

His game is simple, attack and attack with varying degrees of success. Sometimes it works well but most of the time he just sprays dozens of errors in a match. He’s played fairly decent on the surface in the past and he might do that again.

Lately, it’s been a struggle for him with some solid wins but also some bad defeats in there. It’s simply very hard to predict what kind of Basilashvili will show up. Grass suits his game but only if he can hit the ball in the court. If he sprays dozens of errors it’s not going to work at all.

The last time he won two matches in a row was in Doha in February. Just a stat to think about.

Challenger Final for Musetti

After bowing out of Roland Garros early, Lorenzo Musetti went back to Italy to play at a challenger event in Forli on clay. He played very well and he’s in the final playing later today. That’s both good and bad for him when it comes to this event. He will like a chance to win the event but it took quite a bit of effort to get there.

It will certainly leave him quite a bit drained for Stuttgart despite it being a rather short plane trip. If he doesn’t pull out and travel to Stuttgart he will face a tricky opponent but one he can beat. It’s been a solid season for Musetti.

20-13 on the ear is fairly solid but his grass experience is eliminated. He played one match last year showing a kind of lacklustre enthusiasm about the surface. This year he opted to play some warm-up events so that’s good. It shows a commitment to get better on the surface.

His game is not very well suited for it. His serve is not yet that powerful and his groundstrokes are lacking. His variety could be a strength but not at this time. He is far more suited for clay.

Basilashvili v Musetti Prediction and Tip

This will be their first meeting so it’s going to be interesting how they match up. I like Musetti’s style against Basilashvili generally because he can keep the ball in play. He can also counter with his backhand quite well so there are chances there.

It’s tricky to predict how well he can play on grass though. Basilashvili’s game is far better for the surface. He has more experience on it as well and I think he will win. Mostly because Musetti will travel to Stuttgart quite tired after a long in week Forli. That is if he travels at all.

Basilashvili could always beat himself but most of the time this season he won at least one match before doing that. I expect a similar Stuttgart experience.

Tip: Basilashvili to win: 4/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
