Arianne Hartono has been a very hard-working tennis player who finished her sporting education in the US playing College Tennis. Being trained on the college circuit means she has a very specific way of playing.
There is a good serve with some solid groundstrokes with a preference for hard courts. Her biggest issue since playing professional has been the consistency which is most often not there. Even in one match, Hartono can go from superb to rather poor.
This year hasn’t been that consistent either with a 9-12 record overall but things might be a bit better on grass in her native country. Hartono plays rather well back home which is true for most players when they are back home. She has only one official match on grass but in theory, it should work well.
She’s been progressing well in the past couple of seasons and she is capable of a top 100 level. A deep run thanks to a wild card here could greatly help her do that.

Preston The Teenage Qualifier
Taylah Preston is a 16-year old player from Australia who seems to have a very bright future in tennis. She played five official matches so far and it’s not been that bad.
She tried to reach the main draw of the Australian Open but lost in the qualifiers. She played a couple of qualifiers as well but this is the first event she was able to advance to the main round of a WTA event through the qualifiers. Her biggest win came against Sara Errani who is not very good anymore but still.
Australians traditionally play very well on grass and this result doesn’t surprise me personally. She’s certainly capable of winning this upcoming match especially after winning two in the qualifiers. She got a walkover in the 2nd round of qualifying but her 1st round win was over Lucrezia Stefanini.
While the Italian is not very good on clay she’s a pro and a very solid pro who does not get beaten that easily. It was a 3-setter as well so take note.
Hartono v Preston Prediction and Tip
So this is a very interesting matchup that I think will be quite competitive. I see Hartono winning a set because she rarely loses in straight sets but I’m quite unsure about her ability to win the match. Preston plays really strong tennis and she demonstrated it in the qualifiers as well.
Hartono has only one official match on the surface while her 16-year old opponent already has two. That matters and the fact that she might play without pressure should help as well. The over is another good thing to consider but if I had to pick a winner. I feel the value is on Preston.
