Shuai Zhang v Cristina Bucsa Head to Head

Shuai Zhang of China has bagged just two wins in her last six tournaments as she is set to start the grass season with a total tally of 13-14.
Hard courts were a far preferred surface for the veteran as she bagged her first singles title in four and a half years. She achieved this feat in Lyon where she upset Dayana Yastremska in the final; a few weeks before that, Zhang also played in the third round of the Australian Open (loss to Elise Mertens).
Now ranking World No. 41, Shuai will hope to keep the tempo going and reach the final in Nottingham for the second successive season.
Last year, she moved past players like Zarina Diyas, Kristina Mladenovic, and Lauren Davis. This edition, standing in her way is a potentially trickier roadblock in the form of local favourite Jodie Burrage, Tereza Martincova, and ultimately Maria Sakkari.
But that’s a problem for later in the week – right now, Zhang needs to focus on dispatching Bucsa.

Bucsa Sails through the Prelims
24-year-old Cristina Bucsa defeated Naiktha Bains and Tessah Andrianjafitrimo to reach the main draw in Nottingham. With this, the Spaniard has improved her tally for the season to 21-13 although, she still has ways to go.
But credit where it’s due, Bucsa reached a career-best ranking at World No. 125 after starting the year outside the top 160.
A fair chunk of her success has come on the ITF Tour. In WTA events, her best result was in the Lyon Open where she reached round two as a qualifier before losing to Yastremska.
In Stuttgart, Madrid, and Rome, Bucsa lost in the qualifying matches while in Paris, she did reach the first round before succumbing to Beatriz Haddad Maia. Her last stint was in ITF Surbiton where Coco Vandeweghe doused her hopes in round two.
Zhang v Bucsa Prediction and Tip
Bucsa, nine years younger than Zhang, may have the advantage of youth and fresher legs. However, her opponent is far too ahead in experience and pedigree. Armed with several singles finals and numerous doubles, Zhang will fancy her prospects here and should do well to reach the next round comfortably.
