Belinda Bencic v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head

Belinda Bencic leads this thrilling head-to-head 4-3, winning a dramatic three-setter in their last meeting earlier this year at St. Petersburg. On grass, the two players have split wins, one each, with Kudermetova actually beating Bencic in their first meeting at Rosmalen in 2018.

Bencic Overcomes Tough Kalinskaya Challenge

Belinda Bencic dug deep to overcome a stubborn Anna Kalinskaya and advanced into Friday’s quarterfinal. Bencic won 7-6 6-4, but victory was not as straightforward as the scoreline suggested.

The Swiss second seed had beaten Madison Brengle so routinely in her first-round match, but was pushed to the limit by the unseeded Russian who led 4-2 in the first set, using her forehand to good effect in outmuscling Bencic.

Kalinskaya was broken back, but had the chance to put the first set to bed when she held two set points on the Bencic serve at 6-5. But the Swiss saved both, the second with a smashing forehand putaway. She forced a tiebreak which she dominated from start to finish, dropping only two points.

The second set remained just as tight. It was grass-court tennis at its finest at times with both players crunching numerous winners from the back of the court. Bencic saved a break point at 4-4 in the decider and turned that pressure towards her opponent in the very next game.

Kalinskaya, having matched Bencic for almost the whole afternoon, double-faulted on match point.

Kudermetova Survives Blinkova Test

Veronika Kudermetova survived an early exit at the Rosmalen Championships but for very different reasons. The Russian power-hitter was playing compatriot Blinkova who took the first set against the run of play 7-5, but was forced to retire towards the end of the second set whilst trailing 5-2.

Remarkably, this is the seventh time this season that Kudermetova has won a match via retirement or walkover. Last week she benefitted from Paula Badosa’s unfortunate calf strain at the French Open, and consequently earned a spot in the second week at the clay slam.

And in her second match on the lawns, she looked in deep trouble as Blinkova came racing out of the blocks to take an early lead with a break of serve. But that only established a pattern as both players struggled to protect their deliveries. Kudermetova in particular was a little bit inconsistent and was broken to love at 5-5. Blinkova went on to wrap up the set, saving a pair of break points in game 12.

In the second set, Kudermetova shook off the cobwebs that appeared to hold her back. She came through a lengthy opening game and went on to dominate her countrywoman, romping to a 5-2 lead. But it was clear from the last point in the match that Blinkova’s hand injury appeared to bother her immensely and retired.

Bencic v Kudermetova Prediction and Tip

Both players took a while to get going in their respective second-round matches, but for me, I think Bencic has been the sharper of the two. The Swiss has kept her unforced error count lower and has only been broken twice in two matches.

Tip: Bencic to win: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
