Shelby Rogers v Kirsten Flipkens Head to Head

They played twice before with each winning one match. The most recent one was won by Rogers in 2019.

Superb Win Over Rybakina For Rogers

Not many expected Shelby Rogers taking down the 3rd seeded Elena Rybakina in Den Bosch yet she was able to do so quite convincingly. It was 6-2 6-4 for the American who dominated in the first set mainly because Rbyakina failed to hit the court.

It’s not unusual for her to spray many errors on the court and in the first set she was quite shaky. Things changed in the 2nd set as she was much sturdier from the baseline however the serve was a huge issue. She is dependent on her serve and when you fail to hit the 40 % mark in either set you’re in trouble.

Rogers played comfortable, serving well and playing the crucial rallies quite well. Her biggest weakness was her 2nd serve and she needs to be careful with it against Flipkens who will know how to exploit it. Overall it was just a balanced match from Rogers who is playing better tennis this year than last year.

The record is not pretty with 9-11 but her overall level has been pretty solid. The win over Rybakina proves just that albeit she was greatly helped by her opponent.

Flipkens Turning Back The Clock

Kirsten Flipkens is not the youngest anymore but the Belgian is playing really strong tennis not far from home. She has always been a very good player on grass and she is proving it yet again. Ann Li is a tricky player to play especially if she goes on one of her streaky sessions.

Today it was not a problem for the Belgian who smashes her opponent 6-1 6-1. The American was off in the entire match and never quite found her footing. It’s not unusual for her as she is quite a streaky player. Flipkens possessed both the experience and know-how to ease past her opponent.

It was a dominant display from her as she once again demonstrated the sharp movement despite her age. Flipkens most likely is playing her final season so she is playing each match without any pressure and to enjoy it. Going up against Rogers should prove another good chance for her and she will know how to do it.

If she can force the American into errors and make her uncomfortable she might have a chance.

Rogers v Flipkens Prediction and Tip

So this match is entirely on the racquet of Rogers. If she plays the way she knows how to play she should cruise. That it what happened in 2019 when she won easily in two sets. On the other hand, if there is a surface where Flipkens can hurt her it’s grass.

The Belgian has been in superb form playing excellent tennis. Another solid display could give her a chance in this matchup but I don’t think it will be enough. Rogers impressed me against Rybakina with her overall solid level. One more display like that and she’ll be in the semifinal.
