Alison Riske v Harriet Dart Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 31 year old American, and Dart, who is six years younger.

Riske Eases into Last Eight

Riske is an accomplished grass court player. She won the Rosmalen Championship in 2019. And, a few weeks later, reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, her best result in a Grand Slam to date.

Certainly she has reached the quarter-final in Nottingham without being unduly stretched so far, beginning with a straight sets victory over the Ukrainian Daria Snigur, ranked 130th in the world, in the first round.

Her second round opponent, Caroline Garcia of France, represented a step-up in class, at least on paper. But Riske was up for the challenge, even if she had to work harder in the second set than the first..

Garcia had already saved five break points by the time that she was finally broken in the first set. And Riske gave her nothing in return on her own serve, as she assumed control of the match.

When Garcia was broken again early in the second set, it looked like the match was all but over. However, the Frenchwoman rallied with a break of her own, and then showed strength of character to save six break points against her in one game.

She undid all that good work by dropping her serve again, but hit back to level, only to once more drop her serve. That gave Riske the chance to serve out, which she duly did.

Dart Saves Match Points and Beats Third Seed

Dart, who herself reached the third round in Wimbledon in 2019, had already beaten a higher ranked player than herself in the first round, defeating the world number 90, Donna Vekic of Croatia, in straight sets.

That, though, was eclipsed by what she did in the second round on Thursday, as she knocked out the number three seed, Camila Giorgi, the world number 26.

It was a close match from start to finish, epitomised by the first set which saw the pair swap breaks, until Dart faltered when serving to stay in the set, enabling Giorgi to claim the honours.

The pattern continued in the second set and the two were locked at four all when the rain came. The break did Dart better than the Italian, because she immediately broke on the resumption of play, and the match headed into a third set.

That went with serve until a dramatic tenth game when, serving to stay in the match. Dart faced three match points, all of which she saved.

It eventually went to a tie-break, and this time, it was the Englishwoman who went a mini break up. Giorgi dropped her serve again and Dart sealed a famous win next point.

Riske v Dart Prediction and Tip

After her victory over Giorgi, Dart will be full of confidence and will have no fears about taking on Riske. But the American is an accomplished grass court player, and, with 74 places separating them in terms of world rankings, will back herself to make the last four.
