Matteo Berrettini v Oscar Otte Head to Head

This will be the third meeting between both players, with Berrettini having won in four sets at the 2021 US Open and the 2018 French Open.

Berrettini Continues To Settle Into Rhythm

2021 was an excellent grass court season for the Italian Matteo Berrettini with him winning the title at Queens and then being runner-up to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon.

This season started well for Berrettini making the semis at the Aussie Open, losing in four sets to eventual champion Rafael Nadal. However , a none too impressive Sunshine Masters that saw him have niggles ended in a more serious elbow injury missing the entire clay season.

It has not been the easiest of comebacks for the number two seed here this week. He had a tight opener where he was pushed to a decider by Radu Abot and prevailed and then had a more challenging quarter-final against compatriot and friend Lorenzo Sonego.

Sonego was off to a strong start taking the first set 6-3 with a single break of serve and looked to be moving much better than Berrettini initially. However, with every game, Berrettini looked to settle in more as he took the second set 6-3 pushing the match into a final set.

It was a tight third set with both players pushing the other, until the sole Berrettini break proved to be enough for him to make the final four here in Stuttgart.

Otte Looking to Continue Favorable Momentum

A late bloomer, Oscar Otte is well-suited to the grass courts, and plays a good net game and has done so this week in Stuttgart.

Otte who will be remembered for the epic second round loss to Briton Andy Murray at Wimbledon last year did not have the best of clay court seasons overall with an early loss at Roland Garross. However, he maintained the good track record at home in Germany making the semis at the Munich ATP 250 losing out in a close encounter with Danish teenage Holger Rune who went on to win the title.

The German got off to a good start this week here in Stuttgart as he played doubles partner and compatriot Daniel Altmaier in the opening round and prevailed in a tight win spanning two tiebreaks.

Up against 2021 Wimbledon semi-finalist Denis Shapovalov in the second round, it was another tight match with both sets going to the breaker and Otte again prevailing each time, much to the disappointment of the Canadian who has now recorded four consecutive losses since the victory against Rafael Nadal in Rome.

Scheduled to play Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi in the quarter-finals, it was a walkover for the German who will now be rested and hope for a continued strong run this weekend.

Berrettini v Otte Prediction and Tip

This should make for a good encounter with both players having games well suited to the grass. While Berrettini starts as the favorite, he is yet to return to the form and confidence of last summer, and on the other hand Otte is confident and in the midst of a good run this week.

A back and forth match on the cards, with the Italian to prevail in a three setter.

Tip: Berrettini to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
