Matteo Berrettini v Andy Murray Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two and the head to head reads 1-1. In the first, in Beijing, Murray had won in two tie-breakers but Berrettini extracted sweet revenge on the grass courts of Queen’s last season by winning 6-3, 6-3.

Berrettini Battles Past Otte

After a top quality 2021 grass court season, Berrettini would have been chuffed to have followed it up with another final here on grass.

More so because of the three-month layoff he had been on before coming into this competition, thanks to an injury.

That he has come back so well, reaching the final with some difficult, hard-fought wins over his opponents, is testimony to the quality of a tennis player who has it in him to test some of the best in the business.

After a first round bye, Berrettini was pushed to three sets by both Radu Albot and Lorenzo Sonego before he registered another gruelling, but eventually straight-set win over Oscar Otte.

In a match lasting an hour and 48 minutes, Berrettini did not break his opponent’s serve even once but still managed to find a way to carve out the victory. Can he now take that step up in the final to make it his sixth ATP title?

Murray Continues to Marvel the Audiences

Sure, Murray had made it to the semifinal at the Surbiton Challenger in the week leading up to this tournament but for him to enter the title-decider here is something not too many would have expected.

In two of his four wins so far in this competition, Murray was a considerable second favourite, and yet, he has won four, straight-set matches in a row.

After sending Stefanos Tsitsipas packing in the quarterfinal, Murray’s latest victim was Nick Kyrgios, whom he defeated 7-6 (5), 6-2 to set up a title-decider. If he wins here, it would be his first tournament win since 2019, and first on grass since his Wimbledon triumph since 2016.

And while Berrettini will be a far tougher opposition than most of whom he has faced so far this tournament, Murray’s form cannot be overlooked. Expect him to come out all guns blazing this match.

Berrettini v Murray Prediction and Tip

Not much to choose between these two. There will fight and toil whoever wins, with a possibility of a tie-breaker (or two) in it.

Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 8/15 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
