Reilly Opelka v Alex De Minaur Head to Head

De Minaur leads what is a lopsided rivalry 4-0. Remarkably, all four meetings took place in the 2019 season. Monday’s match will be their first official meeting on grass.

Opelka Needs Improved Form On Grass

Despite holding the mantle as tennis’ tallest player at 6 feet 11, Opelka has not maximized his greatest strengths on the grass courts. He is currently 6-11 on the surface in the professional tour although he managed to reach the third round on his Wimbledon main draw debut in 2019.

Opelka’s record at Queen’s Club does not make for good reading either. He fell in the qualifying rounds to Denis Shapovalov in his first trip in 2017 and lost in the first round to John Millman last season.

The towering American has been usurped as the top-ranked American by Taylor Fritz, but he sits just one spot from his previous best ranking of No. 17 ahead of his first match on grass in 2022.

Opelka has actually been in fine form in the early part of the season, bagging two titles, including his very first on clay in Houston. His Roland Garros campaign, however, did not go to plan as he lost to Filip Krajinovic in the first round.

De Minaur Struggles In Den Bosch

Alex De Minaur’s season continues to have more twists as the Aussie hit another low in his straight-sets defeat to Adrian Mannarino at the Rosmalen Championships.

The World No. 22 was broken five times by the French lefty who was on a rampage right off the bat. He was hardly winning any baseline exchanges despite holding superior court coverage. Mannarino’s serve and flat-hitting caught De Minaur off balance, which is something not akin to the Aussie’s abilities.

Ultimately, De Minaur failed to bounce back from his frustrating five-set loss to Hugo Gaston at Roland Garros, and he will now need to snap his three-match losing streak when he faces a player he has beaten in each of his four meetings.

The Australian has played some good tennis even in fleeting moments this season. But we cannot doubt his qualities considering that he reached the semifinals of Barcelona and Lyon less than two months ago.

Opelka v De Minaur Prediction and Tip

De Minaur is going through a rough patch at the moment having lost his last three matches. The bookies have gone with the formbook in this one rather than the one-sided head-to-head record. But given that each of their previous four meetings has featured at least one tiebreak set, we are going with the games market here.

Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
