Coco Gauff make a name for herself in the world of tennis when she bested Venus Williams at Wimbledon as a teenager. She did the same thing once more and ever since then Gauff has been known to the casual tennis fan.
She’s still a teenager only recently graduated but not long ago she contested her first grand slam final. Many agree it’s not her last and perhaps the next one will come in London in about three weeks. Up first is a tennis event in Berlin, her first on grass this year, where Gauff will try to warm up for this part of the season.
It’s been a fairly solid season for Gauff but until Roland Garros, she did not do too much. That run while crushing in a sense also gave her a lot of confidence. She admitted as much in an interview after the final and it’s time to prove it on the surface where the world saw her first.
She’s 10-3 on the surface all time so there is a lot of to be excited about if you’re a Gauff fan. Her opponent is one that in theory should not trouble her too much so it will be a smooth transition from clay.

Down Year for Li
Ann Li can play a very polarizing and attacking style of play but she will have to play some smashing tennis if she hopes to down the human wall that is Coco Gauff. Even if the match is played on grass courts, it’s not a surface where Li is particularly confident which is seen in her results.
She is only 4-8 on the surface all time with some poor losses last year. She did play two matches on the surface prior to this match so she will have that advantage over Coco. They came in Den Bosch and the win over Samsonova is one to watch because the Russian is a good grass player in her own right.
Li bombed in the next match against Flipkens getting swept off the court by the veteran. Something similar might happen against Gauff as well especially if her precision is not there. While very polarizing to watch, Li can spray errors like a madman beating herself.
Gauff will try to exploit that and considering her opponent is only 8-9 on the year it might be a good tactic.
Gauff v Li Prediction and Tip
So we have one player that is comfortable on grass and the other not so much. We have also a player that is generally the far better player and employs a style that is very hard to counter. Li is a bit more aggressive generally but that won’t doo her any good if she’s not precise with her shots.
There is a scenario where she smashes Gauff in this matchup but I don’t see it happening here. Li is having a down year with Gauff coming in red-hot from clay and with a lot of confidence the younger American should be able to cruise.
