Kalinskaya Playing for First Win in Berlin

The European clay swing hadn’t been kind to Kalinskaya as she ended the clay season 1-4. Her only win came against lower ranked Marine Partaud in a WTA 125K event in France.

The Russian has a decent career record of 18-14 on grass and played at the Hertogenbosch Open last week. She beat Suzan Lamens 7-6(5), 6-3 in the first round but then lost to Belinda Bencic in straight sets in the second round.

Despite her poor form on clay, it is important to note Kalinskaya was playing very well prior to he clay season. She had a 12-5 record until April 2022.

Kalinskaya is a very unpredictable player. She is technically brilliant but has a tendency to lose focus in matches which some times cost her matches she could have easily won.

She played in Berlin last year and lost in the first round to Ekaterina Alexandrova. This will be her second appearance in the German Open.

2021 Berlin Semifinalist to Play First Grass Match

Cornet will be playing her first grass match of the season here in Berlin. She reached the semifinal in the 2021 edition where she lost to Belinda Bencic.

Cornet has a very poor career record of 24-33 on grass. The veteran has been on tour for 16 years and despite being labeled as an all court player, she has not been able to consistently get it right on grass.

The Frenchwoman is having a difficult year with a 9-13 record but has managed to perform well in the Grand Slams. She reached the quarterfinal in Australia and made it to the third round of the French Open last month.

Cornet will be happy with her first round draw as she has to defend a lot of points here. She is currently ranked 33, 22 places below her career high ranking.

Kalinskaya v Cornet Prediction and Tip

No player is a clear favourite in this match up. Cornet has to defend important ranking points but has been out of form while Kalinskaya proved to be a better player on grass. This match could go either way, hence best option would be to go with over games.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
