Grass Holds No Fears for Zhang

Zhang is one of the most experienced of the Chinese players currently on the WTA tour, and arguably the most successful, winning two Grand Slam doubles titles with partner Samantha Stosur.

And singles-wise, she won her third WTA title earlier this year – and her first outside China – when she beat Dayan Yastrenmska of Ukraine in Lyon on hard courts.

Grass holds no fears for her. Last year she finished runner-up to the now retired Johanna Konta in Nottingham and, in 2019, she reached the quarter-finals in Wimbledon, matching her best result in a Grand Slam singles event.

Last week in Nottingham she reached the quarter-finals before losing to the Czech player Tereza Martincova.

Croatian Qualifier Fett

Croatian qualifier Fett plays most of her tennis in the ITF tour, where, in April, she reached her first final in three years, when she lost on the hard courts of Nottingham.

Her last success at that level came back in November, 2015 in Japan.

2018 saw her qualify for a Grand Slam for the first time and she went on to reach the second round of the Australian Open. Later that year she also qualified for Wimbledon, but lost in the first round.

She has not appeared in the main draw of a Grand Slam since.

However, she has earned her shot against Zhang after coming through two qualifying matches. First she beat Catherine Harrison of the USA, the world 259, in straight sets.

And then she claimed the scalp of the Serbian Aleksandra Krunic, ranked nearly 160 places higher in the world, again defeating her without dropping a set.

Zhang v Fett Prediction and Tip

Although Fett will relish her chance to appear in the main draw of a WTA tournament, Zhang is an experienced player who has proved in the past her ability to play on grass. It would be a turn up for the books if Fett were to win this encounter.

Tip: Zhang to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
