Cerundolo Opens on Grass with a Win

Argentina’s Cerundolo is a much-improved player and that was on display in his first round win over Pedro Martinez as well.

The world number 46, who is more known for his recent prowess on clay, took advantage of his opponent’s struggles on grass and carved out a 6-3, 6-2 victory over his opponent.

Having never won a main draw match on grass before – having never qualified to play in one either – Cerundolo was on court for an hour and 31 minutes before achieving his spot in the second round.

Cerundolo slammed six aces and despite facing 13 break-points, he saved all but one of them. In turn, he broke Martinez four times in the encounter.

He now takes on a British player whose confidence would be touching the stars after the kind of performance he dished out in his opener. Can the Argentine, who is 13/10 to win this, overcome the odds?

Peniston’s Maiden Win a Ripper

Peniston was playing in his first ever main draw match at the highest level when he took to court against the French Open finalist Casper Ruud.

Sure, grass isn’t Ruud’s most preferred surface but then again he was playing against someone ranked 180th in the world and one who had never won a main draw match ever in his career.

Surely, the odds of 1/3 for a Ruud win would have been tempting for most.

As things turned out, Peniston overcame Ruud in two tie-breakers, saving one of the only two break-points he endured while also breaking the Norwegian player once in the second set.

With that kind of a confidence-boosting win under his belt it does look like Peniston has a good chance to double his win tally but for one factor. It was Ruud’s inability to take advantage of nine of the 10 break-point opportunities that he got which tilted the encounter in his opponent’s favour.

It would be interesting to see if Cerundolo allows that kind of getaway.

Cerundolo v Peniston Prediction and Tip

While Peniston is a favourite here, we believe Cerundolo has the game – and quite tempting odds – to be our pick for this one.
