Basilashvili Upsets Third Seed

Basilashvili is not known as a grass court player – a third round at Wimbledon back in 2015 is the sum of his achievements on the surface, and his successes on the main tour have come on clay and hard courts.

However, he caused something of a first round upset by knocking the world number eight, and third seed, Andrey Rublev, out of the tournament.

It was Rublev who drew first blood by breaking Basilashvili in the opening game of the match. The Georgian responded with two breaks of his own, but could not hold onto the advantage he had created for himself and it eventually went to a tie-break.

With Rublev only able to hold serve once, Basilashvili took it easily.

The match settled down after that, until Rublev dropped his serve again midway through the second set. Four games later he saved a match point on his own serve, but the reprieve was short-lived – Basilashvili served out to love next game.

Otte Lone German Survivor in Halle

With Alexander Zverev still recovering from the fractured ankle he suffered at the French Open, Otte is not only the highest ranked German coming into this event, but he is also the lone home survivor to have made it through to the second round.

Not known for his ability on grass either, he enjoyed a good win over the Serb Miomir Kecmanovic, the world number 30, in their first round match.

The first set was dominated by serve to the extent that there was only one break point created and that was by Kecmanovic, which Otte saved.

The German went two mini-breaks up in the tie-break, squandered three set points, but made the fourth count.

The pair swapped breaks at the start of the second set, but, when Kecmanovic dropped his serve again. Otte was presented with the chance to serve for the match, which he gratefully accepted.

Basilashvili v Otte Prediction and Tip

Basilashvili will be buoyed by his win over Rublev, but Otte now knows that he carries German hopes in this tournament on his shoulders, and that, coupled with the fact that he should be more familiar with the local conditions, may just give him the edge.

Tip: Otte to win: 13/15 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
