Halep Finding Form On Grass

Simona Halep caught some fire this week in Birmingham with the Romanian player largely cruising into the Birmingham quarterfinal. Lesia Tsurenko proved no match with Harriet Dart having many issues as well. Overall it’s just been a cruising run for Halep which is a good sign.

Coming off of a rusty clay season was very disappointing for Halep because it’s her favourite surface however it seems like grass suits her play a bit more. She’s playing more aggressive than ever and she’s getting rewarded for it. She is hardly dropping any points behind her first serve.

Overall is a very strong season for Halep with a 22-7 record and he’s trying to replicate the 2019 season when she went 9-1 winning the Wimbledon title. She can certainly do it again and a title run in Birmingham would certainly prove to her that she can do it.

Expect a very motivated Halep and a very aggressive one to close out this match quickly and move on to the semifinal.

Boulter Finding Magic in Birmingham

Katie Boulter has always been a fairly decent grass player because as a native Brit she grew up on the courts. Most British players are fairly good on grass and they can’t wait for this part of the season.

It’s the same for Boulter who finally found some magic in Birmingham as she was unable to do so outside of Britain in the past. She’s however in the 100-200 part of the rankings for a while but never quite found a very strong rhythm to break into the top 100.

It’s a problem for her because she simply doesn’t find the level on other surfaces. It’s been 16-6 so far this year but a third of those wins came on grass in recent weeks. She lost to Ajla Tomljanovic in Nottingham but beat Alison Riske and Caroline Garcia in Birmingham.

She will certainly put up a good fight against Halep but it will be very tricky. She will need her serve and she will need to match Halep’s aggressiveness. Hard to do but if she can do that she might frustrate Halep enough to force mistakes from her.

Halep v Boulter Prediction and Tip

As solid as Katie Boulter is on grass and as good as she plays on native soil I don’t see her winning this match. Simona Halep has played superb tennis so far never facing any issues. I largely expect that to continue as I simply don’t see Boulter matching Halep in any part of the game.

Simona serves better, attacks better and moves quite well. Whatever Boulter might try I think Halep can counter. If she doesn’t beat herself, she won’t lose this match.

Tip: Halep to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
