Dayana Yastremska v Shuai Zhang Head to Head

It’s 2-1 to Zhang who last defeated the Ukrainian in the 2022 Lyon Open final to win the title. She also won their one and only match on the grass courts of Wimbledon in 2021.

Yet Another QF for Zhang

World No. 54 Shuai Zhang continues to make her case as a firm opponent in this year’s Wimbledon.

Last week in Nottingham, where she reached the final last season, she made it to the quarterfinal this time around before losing to Tereza Martincova. This week in Birmingham, the veteran Chinese finds herself in a similar boat.

Her opening two matches went to three sets against the Croatian qualifier Jana Fett (5-7, 6-3, 6-3) and Elena-Gabriela Ruse (6-2, 2-6, 7-5). The match against Yastremska promises to be no different – if anything, it is going to be more demanding.

Zhang’s tally for the season now stands at 17-15 although, on the doubles side of things, she is the #3 on the tour. She won the title in Nottingham with Beatriz Haddad Maia to build her form on grass.

Yastremska Upsets Ostapenko

Dayana Yastremska just delivered one of the biggest wins of her season by knocking out the top seed Jelena Ostapenko. The 22-year-old put on a heroic display of passion as she took the match 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 to reach her fourth quarterfinal of the season.

She last played in the Libema Open where she was downed by the eventual champion Ekaterina Alexandrova in three sets. Before that, Dayana lost her first-round fixtures in Paris (Challenger and Grand Slam).

Since returning to the tour from her suspension last season, Yastremska has been working hard to reclaim her former glory when she was a part of the top 30.

Now ranked World No. 79, her highlights of the current year entail a runner-up feat in Lyon and a quarterfinal stint in Dubai (as a qualifier).

Seeing that she peaked at the #21 position in January 2020, it is fair to say that Yastremska is full of potential and the ability to go big. She still needs to work on her consistency but with every win, she becomes more confident and dangerous.

Zhang v Yastremska Prediction and Tip

Yastremska makes for a good bet here. She has lost to Zhang twice already and will be determined to avoid the same fate again. That said, Shuai is armed with massive experience and will not go down easy. All in all, we have a good tennis match in our hands.
