Tsurenko Passes Linette Test

Lesia Tsurenko continues to impress in Eastbourne – this time with a win over Magda Linette (7-5, 3-6, 7-5) in two and a half hours.

Playing as a qualifier in the tournament, the 33-year-old has now won her last five matches in the event – a first such feat for her since her title run in the Mexican Open 2018.

Previously, she defeated the number nine seed and top-30 player Elena Rybakina with 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. Her preceding opponent was Colombia’s Camila Osorio while in the qualifiers, she defeated Kimberly Birrell and Heather Watson.

This is also her best run of the season – before this, it came in the Miami Open although, she got lucky there. Lesia lost in the final qualifying round but the lucky loser rule saw her through to the second round – she lost to Yulia Putintseva in three sets.

The current World No. 114 also had a round-two stint in Istanbul and has since lost in the opening main-draw matches.

Maia on a Phenomenal Roll

Beatriz Haddad Maia is now on a 12-match winning streak spread across her title runs in the Nottingham Open and Birmingham Classic.

Now ranked World No. 29 – a career-best for her – the Brazilian is set to reach new heights. She is certainly primed wonderfully for the Wimbledon and will be one of the potential dark horses to keep an eye out for.

Maia has also made a new record by becoming the first person since Serena Williams to bag these many consecutive wins on the grass.

Seeding number 15 in Eastbourne, Beatriz commenced with a bye into round two and has defeated Kaia Kanepi and Jodie Burrage to make it this far.

Her preceding wins on the English circuit this month have come over well-established players Simona Halep, Petra Kvitova, Maria Sakkari, Camila Giorgi, and Alison Riske.

Maia has also proven her mettle on other surfaces with a couple of Challenger finals in Saint-Malo and Paris and doubles finals with Anna Danilina in Sydney International and the Australian Open.

Maia v Tsurenko Prediction and Tip

This is going to be a great match; Maia is in impeccable form and loves every moment of being on the grass. Tsurenko has the experience and is enjoying a resurgence and career revival herself.

Both players are determined to keep this going but Maia has the upper hand. Expect her to win.
