Norrie Gets First Grass Court Win Under His Belt

Norrie, who will be leading British hopes at Wimbledon next week, had a disappointing start to his grass court season, losing his opening round match at the Queen’s Club Championships last week to Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria.

So, having been given a first round bye in Eastbourne, he would have been glad to return to winning ways by beating Cressy’s compatriot, Brandon Nakashima, on Wednesday.

The world number 54 was under pressure from the start, saving break points in his opening two service games. It was no surprise that he was finally broken and that Norrie went on to win the first set.

Norrie then raced into a four game lead in the second set, and, from there, he could just ease off and serve out.

Cressy Beats Grass Court Specialist Evans

Cressy began his week on the South Coast of England with a comprehensive defeat of fellow American Reilly Opelka, dropping just four games to the world number 18 and fifth seed.

Next up was a match with Norrie’s compatriot, Dan Evans, a man who normally performs well on grass.

However, Cressy began strongly, breaking Evans in his opening service game, only for the Englishman to respond with a break of his own.

It needed a tie-break to decide the outcome in the end, which Cressy clinched.

The American again forced an early break in the second set and, this time, there was no reprieve for Evans  He had opportunities but break points came and went, and he just could not convert any of them.

Norrie v Cressy Prediction and Tip

With Cressy having beaten Evans, Norrie will know that the American should not be taken lightly. But, if he plays to his full potential on the grass of Eastbourne, he should make the semi-finals.
