Hubert Hurkacz v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Head to Head

There have been four previous encounters between these two players and both have won two apiece.

Davidovich Fokina won their first two meetings at the 2020 US Open and 2021 Montpellier Open while Hurkacz came back to defeat his opponent in Cincinnati and Madrid.

Hurkacz Overturns Stuttgart Debacle with Halle Show

Before the start of the previous season, Hurkacz had had his issues on grass, with the lack of experience allowing him to win just four matches on this surface.

That included a third round appearance at the 2019 Wimbledon following which an entire year of grass court tennis competitions was sent packing because of the pandemic.

Things looked to have changed for the worse for Hurkacz in 2021 when he kick-started the grass swing with back to back first round losses in Stuttgart and Halle. It was only at Wimbledon that Hurkacz’s fortunes changed.

The Polish player overcame Alexander Bublik, Daniil Medvedev and Roger Federer to reach the semifinal there, his first – and by far only – Grand Slam semifinal appearance. And while he went down in four sets to Matteo Berrettini, it would have given him the confidence he can do well on grass.

Which is what seems to have happened this season with Hurkacz losing in the first round – again – in Stuttgart – but then going on to win the Halle Open title with wins over Felix Auger-Aliassime, Nick Kyrgios and Daniil Medvedev.

Can he continue with that same form here at Wimbledon though?

Davidovich Fokina Hoping to Not Face Injury Issues

Davidovich Fokina made an early exit from the Eastbourne International in the week preceding Wimbledon after taking a tumble in his opening round match against Pedro Martinez.

That will be the one question-mark against him coming into this encounter after the Spaniard had made the quarterfinal at the Queen’s Club Championships earlier this month.

After winning the first set 6-1, he took the fall in the second before losing that in a tie-breaker and then opted to retire from that encounter.

Davidovich Fokina had earlier overcome Albert Ramos Vinolas and Alex de Minaur to carve out a place in the Queen’s Club quarterfinal.

Those two wins were two of just three he has won in his career on grass though, which means with his possible fitness concerns and lack of experience on grass it might not get any easier for him against Hurkacz.

Hurkacz v Davidovich Fokina Prediction and Tip

This looks to be a bit of a challenge on paper what with the world number 10 taking on the 38th-ranked Davidovich Fokina in the first round but given all that’s happened, Hurkacz shouldn’t have a lot of problems here.

Tip: Hukacz to win in four sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
