Grigor Dimitrov v Steve Johnson Head to Head

They played seven times with Dimitrov leading 5-2. One of those matches was played at Wimbledon in 2015 and the Bulgarian won it comfortably.

Dimitrov Hoping for Wimbledon Success

Grigor Dimitrov only played one event ahead of Wimbledon and it was the Queen’s Club event in London. He won the first match against Norrie which was a good win but lost the next one to Botic van de Zandschulp and that was a bad loss. It kind of explains the season he’s having.

He is either super god and wins matches beating very good opponents or simply not good enough losing to worse players. It makes it very hard to predict how he will play because the consistency that was once there is simply not there anymore.

The brilliant play does show up and times but you never know when it will come. He’s 18-14 overall and coming back to grass should be good for him. He’s been very strong on the surface in the past boasting a 46-33 record on it. If he can find some sort of consistency he could be a dangerous foe to deal with.

After all, baby-Federer is a nickname that he got due to the similar style of play he has to Federer. We all know what he did at Wimbledon over the years.

Johnson’s Solid Wimbledon Prep

Steve Johnson arrived in the UK o play some grass tennis taking part in Queen’s and Eastbourne. In Queen’s, he won one match and lost the other with both of them being in the qualifiers. In Eastbourne, he was able to enter the main draw once again winning one match and losing the other.

It’s what his career essentially ended up being at the moment. A fairly solid player who can still win some matches but not against some of the better players on the tour. He did not have luck with the draw getting Dimitrov which is a very tough opponent for him.

Historically he lost 5 of 7 matches he played against him and stylistically it doesn’t work that well either. Johnson plays well on grass generally having a very strong record on the surface but his level has fallen off a cliff in recent years. He is 17-14 overall but a lot o these matches came on the challenger event and that’s not the same level as the ATP top level.

Dimitrov v Johnson Prediction and Tip

Dimitrov is leading the H2H 5-2 and that should tell you that he generally has had the upper hand in this matchup. I do think he will win this one again because he’s just a better player. The only way he loses this match is if the bad Dimitrov shows up and I don’t think it will in round one.

He’s generally been quite motivated in Grand Slams and I don’t see him botching it this early. Take Dimitrov to win it in four sets.

Tip: Dimitrov to win in four sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
