Can Baez Adapt to Wimbledon?

Another man to make his main draw debut at the All-England Club, Baez’s only previous visit to Wimbledon ended at the first round of qualifying last year.

However, since then he has continued his steady march up the world rankings and now finds himself seeded.

His progression, though, has largely been based on clay. He finished runner-up at the Chile Open in February and, two months later, won his first senior ATP title in Estoril.

The Argentine’s first foray on grass this year was a success. He beat Jordan Thomson of Australia in the first round in Mallorca. However, his run was then ended by the world number 64, Daniel Altmaier of Germany, going down to defeat in three sets.

Daniel’s Poor Record in South-West London

Daniel has never been beyond the first round of Wimbledon before in three previous attempts, although he chose not to compete last year.

And recent omens that he might improve on that record are not promising. He failed to qualify for the Queen’s Club Championships, beaten by the American Denis Kudla.

He was quickly able to exact revenge on Kudla in Mallorca last weekend, beating hm to qualify for the main draw there.

However, he was then beaten in straight sets by the fifth seed and world number 20, Roberto Batuista-Agut.

In truth though, the Japanese man far prefers a hard court to grass.

Baez v Daniel Prediction and Tip

Baez has been given a kind draw on his Wimbledon debut, playing a man who has  never been beyond the first round here and much prefers a hard court. A confidence boosting win should help the Argentine with his adaptation.
