Can Evans Improve His Wimbledon Record?

Evans first appeared at his home Grand Slam in 2009, but his record at Wimbledon is modest, two third round appearances the best he has managed.

That is perhaps surprising for a man who has had a good deal of success on grass on the Challenger tour, winning three tournaments on the surface, most recently in Nottingham earlier this month when he beat the Australian Jordan Thompson in the final.

He will be disappointed by what happened subsequently. The Englishman was knocked out in the first round of Queen’s by the eventual winner, Matteo Berrettini. And then, earlier this week in Eastbourne, having overcome Adrian Mannarino of France, he then was beaten by the American world number 60, Maxime Cressy.

Australian Makes His Min Draw Debut

Kubler is making his Wimbledon main draw debut, although he is not a complete stranger to Grand Slams.

In a career that has seen him suffer more than his fair share of injuries, he came through qualifying to make the second round at the US Open in 2019, a feat he recently repeated at Roland Garros.

And he has shown recent evidence of form by reaching four Challenger finals this year, two on clay and two on hard courts, winning three of them, the most recent victory coming in Little Rock earlier this month.

He faces Evans after first beating Cem Ilkel of Turkey, Thiago Augustin Tirante of Argentina, and then finally Elias Ymer of Sweden in the qualifying competition.

Evans v Kubler Prediction and Tip

Evans will be expected to begin his latest campaign on grass with a win over a man who is making his Wimbledon debut. He will be desperate to avoid an early defeat in front of the British crowd.

Tip: Evans to win AND Both players to win a set: 11/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
