Alexander Bublik heads to his fourth Wimbledon with a 4-3 season record on grass. The Kazakh won his opening round matches in Stuttgart and Queen’s against Denis Kudla and Lorenzo Musetti respectively, but was beaten in the second round of both the events by Andy Murray in the former and Marin Cilic in the latter tournament.
Having exited the first two tournaments with mixed feelings, Bublik made it to the quarterfinal in Eastbourne this week. He knocked out seventh seed Frances Tiafoe in a comeback win in the first round and then hurried past John Millman in straight sets in the second round. Taylor Fritz ended his run in the quarterfinals.
Overall, Bublik is 17-16 this year and he captured his maiden ATP title in Montpellier. He had a 0-4 record in the finals prior to the ATP 250 in France, which he claimed by defeating Alexander Zverev in the final.
Bublik, 25, has a 15-11 career record on grass. He had lost in the opening rounds of Wimbledon in his first two appearances, but made it to the third round last year. His best on grass was a runner-up finish in Newport in 2019.

Fucsovics Was a Quarterfinalist Last Year
Last year, Marton Fucsovics had displayed outstanding form at Wimbledon, defeating seeded players in Jannik Sinner, Diego Schwartzman and Andrey Rublev en route the quarterfinals. The Hungarian was eventually stopped by Novak Djokovic, but not before he had made a strong impression.
The World No. 57 will look for a repeat performance this year, but he hasn’t been able to finish matches in the last two tournaments. He made it to the quarterfinals in Stuttgart, following wins over Jurij Rodionov and Hubert Hurkacz but withdrew from the last eight clash against Nick Kyrgios, while trailing 6-7, 0-3.
In his next grass assignment in Halle, he withdrew from the opening round match against Roberto Bautista Agut, while he was down 2-6, 0-3.
Overall, Fucsovics has a 13-14 record in 2022, which also includes quarterfinal finishes in Rotterdam and Doha.
The 30-year-old is a good player on grass and is very much capable of pulling off another surprise run in the tournament.
