Jelena Ostapenko v Oceane Dodin Head to Head

It’s 1-1 between the two ladies; Ostapenko won their last meeting in the 2022 WTA Doha in straight sets. Before that, Dodin’s victory came back in the 2014 ITF Zawada final.

Ostapenko all Ready for the Slam

Jelena Ostapenko is as ready as one could be for the upcoming Wimbledon slam. She is coming in with a fair bit of momentum, having developed her form across the grass events in England.

Competing in Birmingham and Eastbourne, the Latvian made it to the doubles final in both those events with Lyudmyla Kichenok.

Coincidentally, both those matches couldn’t be played due to walkovers – Ostapenko and Kichenok won the first won for the same reason while in the latter, the pair withdrew.

Jelena enjoyed a deep run in the singles discipline too – while she fell early in Birmingham, she did reach the final the following week before losing to Petra Kvitova in straight sets. In the preceding rounds, however, she did register convincing victories over the likes of Madison Keys, Anhelina Kalinina, and Camila Giorgi.

On the whole, Ostapenko, now ranked World No. 14, has had a pretty decent year with a title in Dubai 500 and late-round appearances in St. Petersburg and Doha.

Dodin, Facing a Herculean Task

World No. 85 Oceane Dodin faces a massive challenge at the SW19 on Monday. In her previous appearances here, she has never made it past the first round although, she fell in the qualifying rounds five out of six times.

It’s quite unlikely that the 25-year-old will break that jinx this time around.

Her sole grass event of the season was in Nottingham where she lost to Tereza Martincova in the opener.

In fact, most of Dodin’s season has been along these lines. There are only two prominent tournaments where the Frenchwoman made it deep – Marbella Challenger and WTA Strasbourg. Unfortunately, she hasn’t quite managed to build on these results with consistency.

Ostapenko v Dodin Prediction and Tip

Ostapenko is the heavy favourite here; there may be nerves but as the 2018 semifinalist and some decent momentum of late, she should do well to win this one in straight sets.

Tip: Ostapenko to Win 2-0: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
