Hontama Scrapes Through the Qualifiers
With a career-best ranking of 122nd in the world, Hontama had never made it to the main draw of a Grand Slam before this.
This time around, at Wimbledon 2022, Hontama has finally achieved what she had set out to do with three wins in the qualifiers that sees her made it to the first round for the first time at a major.
In the last two rounds of those qualifiers, against Stephanie Wagner and Lizette Cabrera, Hontama overcame a first set loss to carve out a victory and in turn a surprise place in the main draw.
She now goes up against a struggling Tauson and might have a chance of causing a big upset first up.
