Former Mixed Doubles Champion Watson

Watson is a former Mixed Doubles champion at Wimbledon. With partner Henri Kontinen she won the title in 2016, and the pair were beaten finalists the following year.

However, her singles’ record in what is her home Grand Slam is by comparison modest – – two third round appearances, the last of those five years ago, is the best that she has managed.

Two years ago she won her fourth WTA title in Mexico, but her form and ranking has dipped since then.

Nor has her form on grass this year been particularly encouraging. She lost in the second round of Nottingham, and was forced to enter the qualifying competition in Eastbourne. She did make it through to the main draw, but was promptly beaten by Rebecca Marino of Canada in straight sets.

Korpatsch Makes her Wimbledon Debut

Korpatsch is making her Wimbledon debut, courtesy of having recently reached her highest ever singles’ ranking.

This will be the third time she has appeared in a Grand Slam tournament – she qualified for both the French and US Opens last year, but was a first round loser in each case.

So far this season, she has been struggling on grass. She was beaten in the first round of Rosmalen, and, although she came through qualifying in Berlin, she lost in the first round.

It was a similar story in Bad Homburg last week, where she came through the qualifying competition only to suffer a first round defat at the hands of compatriot Sabine Lisicki, currently the world number 804.

Watson v Korpatsch Prediction and Tip

Watson may not be in the best of form right now, but if she could have hand-picked an opponent, Korpatsch would have been an ideal choice. Not only is the German making her debut at Wimbledon, but she has shown little or no form on grass so far this season.

Tip: Watson to win: 2/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
