Horror Grass Start for Sousa

Joao Sousa arrives at Wimbledon with an 0-3 record on grass and generally poor play that leaves many of his fans wondering what is going on.

Sousa has very fond memories of Wimbledon having had some of his best matches at the event. Two of his three losses this year were to Radu Albot which is okay cause he is a solid player. The 3rd one was against McDonald, another solid player.

In the final two matches, he actually won a set so that’s a positive trend that will hopefully result in a victory at Wimbledon. He has a negative record on the surface he’s been pretty solid on it. He has a good serve and attacking affinities so all of that works well on grass.

It’s somewhat of a lacklustre season for him so far with a 20-21 record but Perhaps Wimbledon can kickstart some of that.

Gasquet Back On Grass

Once upon a time, Gasquet was an excellent grass player with a beautiful game that had fans around the world mesmerised. He’s not that anymore even if the backhand looks as pretty as ever.

Gasquet is actually 18-14 on the year thanks to some solid performances on clay. He did not play a single grass matches this year yet which is a bit unusual but he will use rest to hopefully put on a great performance this year. Last year it was an exit in round two of the event against Roger Federer.

This year he will hope to do something similar but it will be tricky. The last couple of Wimbledon’s have been rather brought for him because he runs into players that simply play better.

He’s not the youngest anymore and I think he will retire pretty soon. Maybe this might be his final Wimbledon. Who knows.

Sousa v Gasquet Prediction and Tip

This one is pretty tough to call because they are somewhat close in level. They played in Geneva not long with Sousa winning easily but that was an event where Sousa played superbly. He has the odd event where everything clicks and he nearly beat Casper Ruud on clay so it was not his usual self.

I think the Portuguese player will win this match because I’ve been disappointed by Gasquet for the most part. He is simply not good enough to beat some of the best players in the world and while I don’t think Sousa is that, he certainly fits the description of a player who should win this match.

Tip: Sousa to win in four sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
