Emma Raducanu v Caroline Garcia Head to Head

There has been one previous outing between these two players and Raducanu had won that in three sets in Indian Wells earlier this year.

Raducanu Tames van Uytvanck

After the kind of season that Raducanu had had, and with fitness concerns in the lead-up to this Wimbledon it came as no surprise that the Brit started off as an underdog in her opener against Alison van Uytvanck.

That she managed a convincing 6-4, 6-4 victory over her Belgian opponent is due credit to her own mental strength, an ability to shut out all the noise and do the job.

The Briton was on court for an hour and 42 minutes, and needed to overcome two breaks of serves against her before carving out that win against van Uytvanck.

It was Raducanu who drew first blood in the opening set when she broke her opponent in the seventh game, only to get broken back. Raducanu didn’t let up the pressure as she broke to love and then served it out.

In the second set, van Uytvanck took the early lead but was broken back in the very next game, before Raducanu increased the pressure and broke for the second time in the ninth game.

Raducanu then clinched the match on her second match-point to reach round two. With her confidence now high, she would be more certain of her own chances against another in-form player Garcia.

Garcia Finally Breaks the Round One Hoodoo

Things looked to be going in a direction Garcia wouldn’t have wanted in her opening round encounter but a fighting showing in the third set against Yuriko Miyazaki allowed her a first entry into the fourth round in four appearances.

Garcia needed two hours and 20 minutes to scrape past Miyzaki 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4) and set up a second round match against the local favourite.

It was her struggles with her first serve that caused Garcia much problem with the Frenchwoman getting just 41% of her first serves in, in the opening set.

It improved slightly to 46% in the second and while it got better in the third set too, the match went into a tie-breaker with neither player able to take advantage of the other’s struggles.

In the end, Garcia’s experience stood through, as did her form as she registered her sixth successive win on grass to make it to round two.

Can she take down Raducanu though?

Raducanu v Garcia Prediction and Tip

One solid showing and Raducanu is back as a favourite coming into this encounter with bookmakers offering 4/6 for her win. Garcia can be expected to put up a brave front though and take her British opponent to a third.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 5/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
